The Good Stuff

  • 3G is here
  • GPS is onboard too,
  • Battery life hasn’t suffered. It is up to 10 hours for 2G calls, five hours for 3G. Standby up to 300 hours, video playback up to seven hours and music playback 24 hours.
  • 3.5in screen remains contrary to rumours of it being shrunk
  • A white edition (the back is white) - for those find this important
  • Flush headphone jack - at long last
  • Weight is cut 2g (most likely by scrapping the metal back in favour of a plastic one - see below)

The Bad Stuff

  • It IS fatter 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm verses the original’s 115 x 61 x 11.6mm
  • The sleek metal back is now plastic. It may be less slippy to hold but what about durability and build quality?
  • GPS is rudimentary working from a top down view, no 3D mapping
  • Screen resolution remains unchanged at 480 x 320 when many rivals have adopted VGA
  • Incredibly Bluetooth A2DP is still left off so no wireless music enjoyment
  • Video recording unbelievably remains absent
  • No front mounted video camera, no 3G video calling
  • Camera unchanged at two megapixels and no mention of any upgrades (flash, autofocus, etc) this one is a huge let down.
  • No details of offline mapping. It’s likely to cost a pretty penny it seems
  • 8GB and 16GB capacities remain, no 32GB edition for now
  • Steve didn’t define the 3G (7.2Mbit had been rumoured) and it isn’t specified even now
  • No wider codec support (AVI/DivX/Xvid remain a distant dream)
  • The dock has been removed from the bundle as Apple strips out costs just as it did when the iPod evolved (it seems unlikely the old dock will fit the curvier profile too)
  • No announcement of Flash for the web browser

Weird and funny Ebay auctions

Buy igloo ?

“This is a special igloo made of 100% Columbia River Gorge snow built in  6 hours by two poor bored college students on winter break. they are desperate to sell before it melts. All proceeds will go toward tuition and books for next semester. Total inclosed space is approximately 16 square feet and includes 2 rooms and a mudroom entrance. Special note: This does not include the land supporting igloo.”

can’t imagine who would need to buy this but anyway, here it is. Someone’s trying to sell this (what you see in the photo) as an igloo.

Oh, and did I mention that you have to arrange for pickup yourself?

Concept Sky Commuter Aircraft

Anyone know if this thing  works?

Apparently, it’s the  last Sky Commuter Prototype check craft that remains in existence today.

“The development of this advanced technology & project started back in the mid 1980’s. Design & engineering was created by Boeing engineer’s in Arlington Washington. Some 60 investors & well over $6,000.000.00 in R&D & production yielded only (3) concept check ships before the plant was shutdown for reasons not listed here. The sad end was all & anything that was in the hangar was taken & or destroyed. This sole example of this technology, advancements & investments are present & was saved in this single craft. The ship was not at the base location at the time or it to would have been destroyed.

From the auction description:

This is the only registered aircraft with the FAA as a VTOL class & carries the correct tail number of N2001C. All aircraft materials & built by the finest. The craft is 14 feet long & 8 foot wide at the front Canard winglets & the rear outer fan rims.”

The current high bid is $47,600.

Party Pooper

“Just about 4 inch’s long & molded to fit on a toilet stool, IT’S So GROSS!!!”
This looks  convincing, at least in the photograph. It’s a prank item that you can use at a party.
Bids start at $5.19. there’s no bids yet, so I guess there aren’t that plenty of pranksters out there!
Oh, by the way, it’s brand spanking new & still in its package.
